MANATEE, FL : A man died after crash in Myakka City on Thursday, August 10, 2017
Terriea Pethybridge and her husband were on their way home from the Tampa Bay Rays game when they saw bright lights along State Road 70.
It was a law enforcement vehicle, Pethybridge recalled, that still had its bright lights on, along with flashing blue lights.
When they saw why the car was stopped, Pethybridge and her husband got out of their car and ran to help.The crash, which happened at approximately 12:21 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of State Road 70 and Robinson Road in Manatee County, left one person dead and another hospitalized, according to FHP.
A 1997 Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on S.R. 70 just east of Robinson Road.
A 2015 Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound on S.R. 70 also near Robinson Road when the 23-year-old driver of the Chevrolet drifted across the center lane line and struck the Challenger, according to FHP.
The Challenger rotated after the impact, stopping in a ditch on the north side of the highway.
The driver, 37-year-old Adam Absher, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chevrolet rotated and overturned, stopping in a ditch on the north side of the road and the driver was ejected from a rear window, according to FHP. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Pethybridge said the scene of the crash was littered with car parts. The Dodge was destroyed.
“It was a horrible thing to see,” Pethybridge said, as she was there when Absher died. “It was devastating to see, it was a young life.”
It is unclear why the vehicle did not maintain its lane. The crash remains under investigation.
