Authorities have identified a man who was killed in a crash on state Route 5 in central New York.

A spokesman for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says 54-year-old Paul Cerullo wasn't wearing a seat belt when he crashed his pickup truck into a guard rail early Sunday morning in Geddes (GEH'-dehs), just outside Syracuse.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene just after midnight. The Geddes man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say Cerullo's death shows the risks of driving without a seat belt.

Deputies are investigating the cause of the crash.
