Clermont, FL : Johnny Figueroa, 22, killed in hit-and-run crash on U.S. 27 in Clermont on Monday, January 5, 2015
State troopers said they have the car wanted in a deadly hit-and-run, but they still have to put the driver behind the wheel at the time of the incident.
Johnny Figueroa, 22, was crossing U.S. 27 at County Road 474 in Clermont Monday when he was hit.
Investigators said he was walking from his job at a Walmart when he was struck by a black Honda Accord.
Devanise Figueroa, the victim’s sister, said she can’t understand why someone would leave him for dead.
“You don’t leave a person like that. What kind of human being can do something like that?,” she said. “What if he was alive for a bit? And you had stayed there, called somebody who could have saved him? But you didn’t. You left my brother. He stayed out in the grass like he was road kill.”
Shortly after Channel 9 reported the hit-and-run, a witness told investigators on social media where they could find the car.
Troopers said they are interviewing a person of interest, but they have not made any arrests because they still have to prove he or she was behind the wheel.
