Allentown, PA : Lower Macungie man killed in Lower Milford crash on Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2017

A 65-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon after his car struck a tree along Kings Highway South near the intersection with Janes Lane in Lower Milford, state police said.

Byron Lee Shoemaker, of the 3700 block of Devonshire Road in Lower Macungie, was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest about an hour after the crash, troopers said.

Shoemaker's SUV was northbound about 3:36 p.m. when it veered across the roadway into the southbound lanes and struck a tree head-on, according to state police.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office said they plan to perform an autopsy today.
