Cañon City, CO : Robert Dale Collins, 55, died, and Patricia Ann Plendl, 57, seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 50, 6 miles west of Cañon City on Friday, April 29, 2016

Robert Dale Collins, 55, of Black Forest died, and Patricia Ann Plendl, 57, of Cotopaxi was seriously injured Friday in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 50, 6 miles west of Cañon City.

The Colorado State Patrol reported Collins was driving a 2004 Freightliner Sprinter Van westbound on U.S. 50 when he lost control.

The Freightliner began to rotate counterclockwise, traveled into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2013 Ford Escape, causing Collins to be ejected.

The freightliner rolled three-quarter time, coming to rest on its passenger side in the eastbound lane.
The Ford came to rest on its wheels facing eastbound in the eastbound lane.
Collins was wearing his safety belt at the time of the collision. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Fremont County coroner.

Plendl, the driver of the Ford, was also wearing her seat belt at the time of the collision. She was transported to a local hospital.

The Colorado State Patrol reported it is investigating the wreck and stated that alcohol and drugs are not considered factors.
