MACOUPIN COUNTY, IL : One youth was killed and another in serious condition after an ATV accident on Wednesday, May 31, 2017

One youth was killed and another in serious condition after an ATV accident early Wednesday evening in Macoupin County.

The victims were later identified as 15-year-old Adam Heyen and his 12-year-old sister from rural Plainview.

According to the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred near Kelly Road, Shipman, when the two were ejected from an ATV at about 6:38 p.m. Invesitgators said it appeared Heyen lost control of the ATV and crashed.Heyen was airlifted from the scene and taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, where he later died. His sister was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis hospital, where she remains listed in serious but stable condition.
