HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL : Driver dead after rear-ending dump truck near Plant City on May 13th 2014
A sedan rear-ended a broken down dump truck near Plant City Tuesday evening. The sedan driver died at the scene, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report.
Deputies said, Charles D. Middleton, 30, was pouring gas into his broken 1987 GMC dump truck at about 8:30 p.m. on the north side of Burton Road facing west. The rear of the truck was on the roadway.
John Carter Phillips, 53, was going west on the road in his 1996 Nissan. Deputies said, he didn't see the truck and hit it. Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger was taken to the Tampa General Hospital with severe neck injuries. Officials haven't identified the passenger yet.
Deputies said that the Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Compliance responded to the scene and conducted the truck inspection. Charges are still pending against the truck owner.
