Tucson ,AZ : Pregnant woman and two others died after car slammed into Palm tree on Monday morning ,July 27th 2015
Tucson Police Department officials said it was one of the worst collisions they have ever seen in Tucson.
Early on Monday morning, a pregnant woman and two others died after the car they were in slammed into a palm tree on East 6th Street near North Country Club Road.
The driver was taken to Banner University Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Police officials said the crash happened as a result of several factors, including alcohol, speed and location.
As of Monday afternoon, police did not yet know how fast the vehicle was traveling, however, debris was found at least 20 yards from the point of impact. The posted speed limit for East Sixth Street is 30 miles per hour.
A retired emergency responder said on Monday that without a doubt, the crash was a result of driver error. He estimated the driver was traveling at least 60 miles per hour, when he lost control and hit the palm tree.
There have also been some questions about the palm tree's location and whether that played a role in the collision. The answer to that, is no.
Officials said this person was going to hit something when he went off the road, possibly another car, the bus stop or a concrete wall.
