Chesterton,IN : Three die in head-on accident on Indiana on June, Tuesday 6th 2017

Three North Judson, Ind., residents died Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident on Ind. 8 in Boone Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
The victims have been identified as driver Amber Fitzgerald, 45; and her passengers, Bonnie Sowles, 68 and Hannah Cullen, 7.
According to police, at 4:14 p.m. Fitzgerald, driving a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, was eastbound in the 300 west block of Ind. 8 when she crossed the center line, apparently in an attempt to avoid rear-ending another vehicle which was stopped in traffic.
Fitzgerald’s Mountaineer was then struck head on by a dump truck, westbound on Ind. 8 and driven by Jerry Niekirk, 59, of Crown Point.
Fitzgerald, Sowles, and Cullen were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Fitzgerald’s other passenger, a 15-year-old North Judson girl, was injured in the crash and transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point, then subsequently airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill.
Niekirk--who escaped injury--advised investigators that he was unable to avoid the head-on with Fitzgerald’s Mountaineer. The Indiana State Police will be performing a routine DOT inspection of Niekirk’s Mack dump truck, registered to Harry Brown Trucking Company Inc. of Hebron.
Police said that line of eastbound traffic which Fitzgerald had been approaching prior to the accident was stopped behind a motorist waiting to turn left into a driveway.
Ind. 8 between C.R. 350W and C.R. 250W was closed well into the evening, police said.
