Tarpon Springs, FL : New Port Richey man hit and killed by car on East Lake Road near the Pasco County line on Sunday night, February 21, 2016

A 68-year-old New Port Richey man died Sunday night when he was hit by a car on East Lake Road near the Pasco County line, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Frank Martello had been involved in another crash before he crossed the road to confront the other driver, according to the FHP. Sgt. Steve Gaskins, an FHP spokesman, said Martello was impaired and threw a beer bottle at the other vehicle.

When he tried to walk back across the road, troopers said, he was hit by a northbound Chrysler 200 driven by Jane Leven, 79, of Hudson. Leven and three passengers in her car were not hurt.

No charges had been filed in the case early Monday morning.
