One person was transported to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital on Tuesday night for moderate injuries following a three-vehicle collision in the 100 block of South China Lake Boulevard near the Ridgecrest Boulevard intersection.

According to RPD Traffic Unit Sgt. Nathan Lloyd, all three vehicles were traveling northbound, when two vehicles stopped. The driver of a third vehicle failed to see the first two vehicles stop for a red light at the China Lake/Ridgecrest Boulevard intersection and rear-ended them, creating a chain event.

RPD reported that the at-fault driver, Ridgecrest resident Desmond Haywood, 26, was detained at the scene and and conducted a sobriety test. Haywood was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for a DUI.

RPD closed off northbound traffic in the immediate vicinity while they investigated and Kern County Fire Department and Liberty Ambulance was called in to provide medical attention to the injured person.

Two of the vehicles, including Desmond’s, were towed from the scene, while the third one was able to drive away under its own power.
