Cambridge, OH : Mississippi man injured in I-77 crash on Thursday, September 7, 2017
A Mississippi man escaped with only minor injuries when the truck he was driving overturned on the Interstate 77 exit ramp to U.S. 22 north of Cambridge after he fell asleep behind the wheel.
Robert Nichols, 19, of Louisville, Miss., was treated by United Ambulance personnel at the scene following the crash at approximately 7:52 a.m.
No other occupants were in the 2001 Ford F-250 when it crashed.
According to the Cambridge post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Nichols was southbound on I-77 when he exited at the U.S. 22 (Cadiz Road) exit.
The patrol reported Nichols fell asleep while on the exit ramp and the Ford truck traveled off the right side of the roadway where it struck an embankment. The truck then overturned and came to rest on its top.
Nichols was reportedly able to kick a window out of the truck and free himself from the heavily-damaged Ford.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The Ford truck was towed from the scene.
Cambridge firefighters were dispatched to assist at the scene.
Nichols was cited for failure to control.
The accident remained under investigation by the patrol’s Cambridge post.
