WINTER HAVEN, FL : Winter Haven man dies following motorcycle crash on April, Saturday 8th 2017
A 49-year-old Winter Haven man died April 13 of injuries from an April 8 motorcycle crash.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies had responded about 1:28 p.m. April 8 to a vehicle crash in the area of County Road 655 (Recker Highway) and Ariana Avenue in Auburndale, where they found Armando Hernandez of 132 Palm Drive, Winter Haven, lying next to the chain-link fence of the Auburndale Sewer Plant entrance located at 1300 Recker Highway. Hernandez was unresponsive and required advanced medical treatment for his injuries. He was transported by Polk County EMS to Lakeland Regional Health as a trauma alert.
Evidence at the scene indicates Hernandez was traveling northbound on Recker Highway at a high rate of speed on a Suzuki motorcycle. He lost control of the motorcycle as he entered into a right-hand curve in the roadway. The motorcycle left the roadway and Hernandez was ejected. He was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash. His head impacted the cement culvert with enough force to split the helmet. The speedometer of the motorcycle was located and showed the last recorded speed was 135 mph.
