Mount Clemens, MI : One man dead, one seriously hurt in Shelby Twp. crash on Friday, 23rd September 2016
Shelby Township police are continuing to investigate a two-car accident that killed a Memphis man and closed the M-53 expressway for several hours on Friday.
Police and firefighters were called about 4:25 p.m. to respond to the crash on the freeway between 23 Mile and 24 Mile roads, police said in a news release.
A preliminary investigation found a red Ford Explorer was driving south when it crossed the center median and struck a white Chevy Malibu driven by a 37-year-old Memphis man.
The Memphis man was pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Scott Trumbo said in the release.
The Ford driver, a 44-year-old Capac man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
As a result of the crash, M-53 was shut down in both directions as police conducted their investigation. Trumbo said the expressway was re-opened about 8 p.m.
Police do not yet know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.
