Munster, IN : Hammond man killed in hit-and-run crash on Saturday, July 1, 2017
Hammond police are looking for the driver of a black Lincoln that struck and killed a 59-year-old Hammond man Saturday just after 9 p.m. as he was crossing the street near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 165th Street.
J. Guadalupe Becerra Medina, 59, of the 5900 block of Hyslop Place in Hammond, was walking west across Columbia Avenue north of 164th Street when he was struck by a car, said Lt. Patrick Vicari, Hammond police traffic division commander.Witnesses described the car as a black, early 2000s Lincoln, possibly a Zephyr, that was traveling south on Columbia Avenue.
"The black Lincoln then fled the scene westbound on 164th Street," Vicari said.
A death investigation team dispatched by the Lake County coroner's office pronounced Medina dead at the scene from blunt force trauma injuries at 10:20 p.m. The manner of death was listed on a press release from the coroner's office as pending.
Vicari said police are seeking witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have information regarding the black Lincoln.
"The Lincoln should have front passenger-side damage, including damage to the passenger headlight," Vicari said.
