Easton, MD : Five people injured after a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 50 east in Easton on Thursday afternoon, April 7, 2016

A three-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 50 east in Easton Thursday afternoon, April 7, sent five people to the hospital, police said.
According to police, around 2:45 p.m. one of the vehicles made an illegal U-turn from Route 50 west and caused a chain reaction accident with two other vehicles.
At the scene, a minivan faced the opposite way on Route 50 east and was positioned against the median guardrail, while an SUV and a truck lay in a ditch on the side of the road. The truck was positioned on its passenger side in the ditch directly in front of the SUV.
Police said someone from each vehicle was taken to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton.
Police did not release names of those involved or hurt in the accident Thursday afternoon, nor did they release who caused the accident because the investigation was still ongoing at that time.
Route 50 east was closed where it splits into state Route 322. The roadway was reopened about an hour later, but the closing caused heavy congestion around the area for vehicles traveling into Easton.
The Easton Police Department, Easton Volunteer Fire Department, Talbot County paramedics and the State Highway Administration responded to the accident.
