Laredo,TX : Man on trial for alleged fatal beating of 3-year-old in Laredo motel said girl's death was accident on may, Friday 26th 2017

A man standing trial on allegations he beat a 3-year-old girl to death before burying her in a north Laredo lot told Houston police that her death was an accident caused by her falling off a motel's sofa, according to recorded statements introduced into evidence Friday in the 406th District Court.
Cristian Yepez faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence in connection to the August 2014 slaying and burial of his girlfriend's daughter, Jasleen Valdez.
On Friday, the prosecution introduced video recorded statements Yepez made to Houston police after being detained on Sept. 10, 2014. In the recording, Yepez says Valdez's death was an accident.
"I just promise you guys that I didn't do anything to hurt (Valdez) because she is like my daughter," Yepez said.
