Sarasota, FL : Northbound Interstate 75 was closed at University Parkway for hours in Sarasota due to an accident early Tuesday morning on May 6th 2014

All northbound lanes reopened on Interstate 75 after a crash in Sarasota near Fruitville Road early Tuesday morning.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, this was a serious injury accident. A medical helicopter had to be dispatched to the scene.

Officials are investigating the crash. They closed the lanes to land the helicopter. The lanes were open about an hour later but residual traffic back up is expected.
