Pulaski County, VA : Charles Cooper Jr., 80, died and three others injured after a fatal crash on Interstate 81 South in Pulaski County on Tuesday, Aug 18, 2015

Virginia State police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Tuesday on Interstate 81 South in Pulaski County.

It happened around 4:20 p.m. near mile marker 93.

State police say a Dodge Caravan veered off the left side of the road and hit a guardrail. The driver tried to regain control of the vehicle but overcorrected and hit the guardrail again, causing the car to overturn at least once before coming to a stop in the center of the road.

Charles Cooper Jr., 80, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he was secured in a wheelchair and wearing a seatbelt.

Cooper’s son-in-law, Milton Jerome Bell, daughter, Carolyn Cooper-Bell, 61, and grandson, Aaron Bell, 29, were all taken to Pulaski Community Hospital with minor injuries and released. All of them were wearing their seatbelts.

Investigators say the driver, Milton Jerome bell, fell asleep and lost control of the car. He is charged with reckless driving.
