Apopka,FL : Woman charged in fatal hit-and-run in Apopka on January, Saturday 3rd 2018

Carmen Clayton, 45, is accused of hitting and killing a woman on U.S. 441 early Saturday morning.

According to investigators, 31-year-old Nikita Pope was crossing U.S. 441 at the Piedmont-Wekiwa/Hiawassee Road intersection when she was hit by a vehicle.

Clayton then fled the scene before emergency responders arrived, police said.

Pope, 31, was transported to Florida Hospital Apopka where she died.

An Apopka resident called police after seeing a vehicle that appeared to have been in a crash.

Investigators inspected the vehicle and determined it had been involved in the crash.

Clayton was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail.
