Salem, OR : Vancouver man killed in Interstate 205 crash on Saturday, January 21, 2017

A Vancouver man was killed Saturday in the Stafford area after he was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 205.

Kevin Hidalgo, 26, died after running onto the highway and being struck by a 2016 Freightliner, an initial police investigation showed.

Around 4 a.m., officials responded to Interstate 205 near milepost 2, where they found Hidalgo had died. Robert Barncord, 40, of Salem, was driving the Freightliner with a box trailer and could not avoid a collision with Hidalgo, police said.

The investigation showed Hidalgo crossed the highway right in front of the truck, police said. His motive remains unclear. Interstate 205 closed its northbound route for four hours as officials investigated the crash.
