Jacksonville, FL : Virginia Beach man dies in Jacksonville dirt bike crash on Tuesday, January 31, 2017

A 26-year-old Virginia Beach man died Tuesday after his dirt bike slammed into a vehicle in the 13300 block of McCormick Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Allen Powell was riding the non-street-legal motorcycle west at a high rate of speed just before 6 p.m. when he accelerated through a red traffic signal at Mount Pleasant Road, police said. A vehicle waiting to make a left turn onto McCormick Woods Drive did not see the speeding dirt bike, which did not have a headlight.

The motorcycle hit the vehicle, throwing Powell through the window and into the back seat. Transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition, he later died, police said.
