One student was injured after a school bus and car collided Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol

The crash happened at the intersection of Philips Highway and Beach Boulevard in the San Marco area.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a vehicle driven by Sara Carter, 59, was traveling north on Philips Highway. At the same time, a school bus driven by Linda Bufford, 37, was traveling east on Beach Boulevard.

Investigators said Carter failed to stop in time at a red light, and the front of her car was struck by the bus, as it passed through the intersection.

Twenty-five students were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue said one student on the bus, a 13-year-old boy, was hurt and his injuries were described as minor. That student was taken to Baptist Medical Center downtown and is expected to be OK.

The bus driver, Bufford, was not injured, nor was Carter, the driver of the car.

The school bus' fender was knocked off by the impact, and the car took the brunt of the damage.
