Baton Rouge, LA : Gonzales man ejected from truck, dies in Ascension crash on Friday, September 9, 2016
A Gonzales man died Friday after the pickup truck he was driving overturned, throwing him from the vehicle, State Police said.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 61 and La. 73 in Ascension Parish, said Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee, a State Police spokesman.
Robert Edwards, 43, was driving a 2008 Ford F250 south on Hwy. 61 when he struck the right rear side of a 2008 Nissan Altima ahead of him, Lee said. The Nissan ran off the right side of the road and Edwards' truck rolled over several times.
Edwards, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck, Lee said.
The Ascension Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Edwards dead at the scene. A toxicology sample will be analyzed to determine if he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, Lee said.
The driver of the Nissan, Keshawn Marshall, 20, was properly restrained and was not hurt, Lee said. Marshall was given a chemical breath test and was not impaired, Lee said.
