Bulloch County, GA : One dead after car crashed into Bulloch County school bus on Highway 25 near the Jenkins County line on Thursday, March 3, 2016
According to Bulloch County School System officials, a bus carrying special needs children was involved in an accident on Highway 25 near the Jenkins County line.
A car struck the bus around 3:30 p.m. while it was on the side of the road dropping a student off. There were four special needs students and a driver on the bus. The bus was stopped at its regular route stop on the far right lane of the highway. The driver had all safety lights and stop sign engaged.
The bus door was open and two of the children were about to disembark when the bus was struck from behind by a small compact vehicle. The uncle of one of the children caught the child from falling out of the bus at impact.
EMS and law enforcement responded. None of the students appear to be injured, and the bus driver may have sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the car, 73-year-old Ted Vickery, was flown to a hospital in Savannah. The passenger in the car, 82-year-old Thurmond Vickery, was killed in the crash.
