Two Wapato women were injured in a two-car DUI collision late Saturday on U.S. Highway 97.

Alana L. Ortega, 19, of Wapato was driving a 1997 Honda Accord on U.S. 97 northbound near South Wapato Road about midnight when she rear-ended a 2017 Toyota Tundra pickup driven by Ramanjit J. Kaur, 35, of Kent, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Ortega and her passenger, Julia M. Thompson-Sampson, 20, also of Wapato, were taken to Yakima Regional Medical Center. Both women were not wearing seat belts, according to a State Patrol news release.

The women were treated and released, a nurse supervisor said Sunday morning.

Kaur and her passenger, Parmjit Singh, 38, of Selah, were uninjured. Both were wearing seat belts.

Drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and DUI charges are pending, the release stated.
