Indianapolis, IN : 3 killed in 7-vehicle crash on Interstate 465 in Indianapolis on Sunday, 14th July 2019
Three people were killed in a seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 465 in Indianapolis Sunday around noon.
Emergency crews were called to I-465 eastbound near Keystone on reports of a multiple-vehicle crash. Callers reported one vehicle was on fire and several people were injured, according to an Indiana State Police news release.
When first responders arrived, one adult and two children were found unresponsive, and all three were pronounced dead at the scene. Seven other people were taken to area hospitals.
Preliminary reports show a semi-tractor trailer ran into a line of cars in backed-up traffic due to construction. The three people killed were in the same vehicle, which was the first vehicle the semi truck hit. After the initial impact, five other vehicles were struck.
Unsafe speed was a factor in the crash. All eastbound lanes of I-465 were closed while the crash was being cleaned up.
No criminal charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
