A man injured in an accident in north Charlotte Wednesday died at the hospital a short time later, according to officials.
The crash happened around 3:20 p.m. on Eastfield Road near Simonton Drive. Investigators said it appeared that 24-year-old Keith Andrew Hepburn was driving a Ford Taurus when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line, striking a Kia Sorenta going in the opposite direction.
Police said that Hepburn was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle. He was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center where he later died.
The driver of the Kia, a 79-year-old man, was taken to CMC-Huntersville with minor injuries. He is expected to be okay.
Investigators said that it appears excessive speed and impairment contributed to the crash, but that the incident is still under investigation.
