ELLENSBURG, WA : Suspect dives into canal after 124-mph chase, crash on I-90 near Ellensburgon Wednesday, 25th July 2018

A suspected DUI driver is in custody after reportedly speeding past a state trooper at 124 mph in a stolen car and crashing into a guardrail, then jumping out into a fast-moving irrigation canal in a fruitless effort to outrun police, the Washington State Patrol reports.

The drama unfolded at around 7 a.m. when a car came screaming past a patrol sergeant working radar on Interstate 90 near Ellensburg, said Trooper John Bryant of the State Patrol.
The sergeant took off after the speeding car as Kittitas County sheriff's deputies joined the chase at speeds of well over 100 mph.
The suspect attempted to make a high-speed exit off the freeway and crashed into a guardrail. He then jumped a fence and into an irrigation canal.
But the suspect's efforts to escape the law were ultimately unsuccessful. He was caught by deputies soon afterward on State Route 821.
An investigation later found that the suspect had broken into a home on Snoqualmie Pass, where he took car keys and stole the vehicle, Bryant said.
The suspect was also believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he said.
