Venice, CA : Motorist fleeing police crashes into house porch in the 1200 block of Rose Avenue on Thursday, 30th January, 2020

A motorist crashed Thursday into the front porch of a house in his attempt to elude authorities, police said.

About 1 p.m., members of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department’s tactical team were in the 1200 block of Rose Avenue when they saw what they said was a suspicious person driving a blue sedan. Michael Mallett, the driver and sole occupant of the car, saw the deputies and attempted to speed away south on Rose Avenue.

Mallett, however, lost control of his car and crashed into the Rose Avenue house. He then fled on foot but was caught and arrested two blocks away.

One person was inside the house at the time of the crash, but no one was injured.

Mallett was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage and resisting a peace officer.
