Charlotte County, Florida
A 67-year-old Port Charlotte woman was killed this morning when she rear-ended a dump truck on Interstate 75, near U.S. 17 in Charlotte County, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The FHP says the woman was traveling north on I-75 at about 2:30 a.m. when she failed to observe the slower moving ahead and ran into it. The driver of the truck, Miguel Valido, 61, of Naples, was not injured.
After the unidentified driver -- who was not wearing a seatbelt, FHP reports -- struck the truck, her car came to rest facing north in the outside lane of I-75 just south of U.S. 17. The truck came to a controlled stop.
