Elkhart, IN : Retired Elkhart County Sheriff officer Gerald "Jerry" Webb, 61, died in a car-motorcycle crash in Elkhart on Saturday afternoon, April 18, 2015

A former Elkhart County sheriff’s deputy and current corrections officer was killed in a car-motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Elkhart.

?According to a news release from Elkhart police, officers and firefighters were called to the intersection of County Road 6 and Emerson Drive at 4:37 p.m. on report of a car-motorcycle crash.

Police said the motorcycle was traveling west on County Road 6 when it collided with the car. The two people inside the car were not hurt. The passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend with serious injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Elkhart police identified the motorcycle driver who was killed as Gerald C. “Jerry” Webb, 61.
According to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Webb was a retired sheriff’s office employee who held roles that included jail captain, jail sergeant, corrections officer and patrol officer. Webb served the department for 37 years, beginning in June 1978. Webb retired from police work in January 2006 but continued with the department in his current role as a corrections officer.
The crash remains under investigation.?
