Cary, IL : 49-year-old man critically injured after a minibike crash near Cary on Sunday evening, April 17, 2016

A man was flown to the hospital in critical condition Sunday after a minibike crash, officials said.

Cary Fire Protection District Lt. Michael Douglass said the fire district was dispatched about 6:50 p.m. to Fox River Road, just east of Hickory Nut Grove Road, outside of Cary.

Preliminary investigations show the man was westbound on Fox River Road when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the minibike and crashed, Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Chris Covelli said. No other vehicles were involved, officials said.

The man was taken by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with injuries that were considered life-threatening, Covelli said. He could not provide more information on the man’s identity.

Douglass said the man was not wearing a helmet.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Unit was at the scene working to reconstruct the events leading to the crash, Covelli said.
