Easton, MA : Man cited in crash that injured 3 adults, 3 children in Easton early Sunday morning, July 17, 2016
A Brockton man has been cited for driving negligently as to endanger in a crash that injured several adults and children on Route 138 early Sunday morning, police said.
The Enterprise reports Mark Maldonado, 28, was also cited for marked lanes violation and having an open container of alcohol in his 2000 Ford F150 pickup truck after the 1:26 a.m. crash near 639 Turnpike St., also Route 138, that resulted in a 25-year-old Taunton woman being flown to a Boston hospital, police said.
A preliminary investigation found that Maldonado's truck, traveling north on Turnpike Street, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a gray Honda Civic, driven by Jennifer Montenegro, 28, of Taunton, that was traveling south, police said.
Emergency crews had to extricate a front passenger in Montenegro's Honda, Abigail Garcia, 25, of Taunton, from the car. Garcia was flown to a Boston hospital. Montenegro was sent by ambulance to a Rhode Island hospital.
A rear seat passenger in the Honda, Nilton Andrade, 28, of Taunton and three children – ages 5 , 8 and 11-years-old – were sent by ambulance to a Brockton hospital.
All three children were later transferred to Boston area hospitals.
Officials said their injuries were serious but appear to be non-life-threatening. Their conditions were not immediately known on Sunday.
Maldonado was evaluated and treated at the scene, and chose to go to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where he was later treated and released, officials said.
While police found an open container of alcohol inside Maldonado's truck, they said alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
