Village of Big Bend, WI : Woman crashes vehicle into El Kabong restaurant in village of Big Bend on Sunday morning, February 21, 2016
A woman drove her car into the El Kabong Mexican Grill, S91 W22985 Milwaukee Avenue, early Sunday morning after leaving the Papa Stache Pub & Eatery on Big Bend Drive.
The two locations are less than one mile apart.
A Whitewater woman will be cited with a first operating while intoxicated offense, according to the Big Bend Police Department.
Village President James Soneberg said the woman was driving recklessly, lost control of her car "and went flying into the building." The woman's blood alcohol content level was not yet known.
Business operator Griselda Puebla said at a Feb. 22 public safety commission meeting she was not sure how the structural damage would delay them in opening the restaurant. A cost estimate to the damage of the restaurant was not immediately known.
Unrelated to the crash, El Kabong had been facing a few delays in being able to open for business.
Karen Schnitzler lives near Papa Stache, which has been no stranger to noise complaints in the past. She filed a complaint Feb. 21 with the village against the establishment due to excessive noise that morning. She heard a man screaming around 2:30 a.m. that he'd told a girl she was "too drunk" to drive.
Big Bend Police Chief Don Gaglione said during the commission meeting he felt the comment Schnitzler overheard was directly related to the accident.
