Somerton, AZ : One extricated from van after 2-vehicle crash at County 14th & Avenue C on Friday afternoon, April 1, 2016

Three people were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash that required firefighters extricate a passenger in one of the vehicles.
According to Capt. Javier Hernandez, of the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department, at approximately 2:08 p.m. firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vans at County 14th & Avenue C.
Upon their arrival on scene, firefighters found a Pontiac Montana minivan and a Ford Club Wagon van with heavy damage to both vehicles. The Ford van was a medical transport unit but was not transporting any patients at the time of the accident.
While the drivers of both vehicles were able to free themselves, the passenger of the minivan had to be extricated from the vehicle due to the heavy damage caused by the impact.
All three patients were in stable condition. One patient, the passenger of the minivan, was transported to YRMC via Somerton/Cocopah ambulance. He was placed in full cervical spine immobilization precautions due to complaints of back pain and pain to the right side of his body.
The two other patients were transported to YRMC via Rural Metro ambulance.
Because this is was a response area bordering on both the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department and Rural Metro’s areas, both agencies responded to this emergency. The Yuma County Sheriff Office is investigating the accident.
