Porter, NY : 20-year-old man seriously hurt in head-on car crash on Thursday January 14 2016.
A 20-year-old man was airlifted to a Rockford hospital with life-threatening injuries, and also was cited for a drug offense, following a head-on car crash in the town of Porter on Thursday.
Alexander J. Hance, of Evansville, was eastbound on Highway 14 with one passenger when his car crossed the centerline and struck a westbound vehicle at about 2:56 p.m., according to a Rock County Sheriff's Office news release.
Hance was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital, said sheriff's office Sgt. Andrew Reed, with life-threatening injuries.
Hance's passenger, Leigha D. Morris, 26, of Evansville, was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center with “serious” injuries and was admitted into the intensive care unit, according to the release. The driver of the westbound vehicle, Kathie J. Gunn, 63, was treated and released from St. Mary's Janesville Hospital.
The crash occurred near North Riley Road, along Highway 14, according to the release.
During the investigation at the scene, authorities discovered paraphernalia used for the consumption of THC, paraphernalia used for the consumption of narcotics and a non-prescribed Schedule II narcotic, the release said.
Hance was cited for operating left of center and possession of drug paraphernalia. Morris also was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule II narcotic.
Authorities had to close down a portion of Highway 14 for four hours, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. It reopened at about 7 p.m.
The town of Porter also was the site of a second car crash around the same time Thursday. At about 3:14 p.m., an SUV and another car collided in the intersection of Highway 59 and Riley Road. The crash involved two people, one of whom was uninjured while the other was treated and released from a hospital, Reed said.
