Castaic, CA : Woman arrested after fiery rollover crash near the Pitchess Detention Center early Monday morning, August 1, 2016
A woman injured in an early morning fiery rollover crash in Castaic near the Pitchess Detention Center has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen car, an officer with the California Highway Patrol said.
The woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of a Chevrolet Cruze, was rushed to the hospital following the solo vehicle crash, CHP Officer Josh Greengard.
“The Chevrolet Cruze was confirmed stolen,” Greengard said. “She is in custody and is being booked at the local sheriff station.”
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered minor injuries in the crash, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The car, northbound on Interstate 5 shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday, left the roadway at the Parker Road off-ramp and plunged down an embankment, according to the CHP.
The car rolled over and became fully engulfed in flames, the Fire Department spokeswoman said.
“The person (motorist) was reported to be out of the vehicle,” she said.
“We got the call initially as a traffic collision, rollover on fire,” the spokeswoman said. “It was fully engulfed.”
The car fire ignited brush near the Pitchess Detention Center and Tapia Canyon Road.
“It was a small fire,” the Fire Department spokeswoman said. “Less than a quarter acre.”
Firefighters extinguished the car fire and had “knockdown” on the brush fire at 1:55 a.m., she said.
