Baton Rouge, LA : Thanksgiving car crash kills teenager on Thursday, November 24th, 2016
A 14-year-old girl died in a car accident Thursday (Nov. 24), Louisiana State Police report.
Emily Sessions of Woodville, Miss., was sitting in the back seat and wearing her seat belt but nonetheless was fatally injured. The East Feliciana Parish Coroner's Office pronounced her dead at the scene.
The accident happened as Shannon Sessions, 24, was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler westbound on Louisiana Route 422 towards Louisiana Route 19, shortly before 4 p.m. She drove off the road to the right when "she became distracted by a bug that flew into her vehicle," spokesman Bryan Lee said. The Jeep ran down a steep embankment, hit a tree and began to overturn.
Shannon Sessions and her front-seat passenger were also wearing seat belts and had "moderate" injuries, Lee said. He did not know whether Emily and Shannon were sisters.
Officials do not think the driver was impaired but will perform a toxicology analysis.
