Topeka, KS : Driver from Tuesday’s fatal crash ID’d on Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Independence police have identified the person who died in Tuesday’s single-car crash on Interstate 70 as 47-year-old Dallas Mays of Kansas City.

The crash happened about 1:50 a.m., Tuesday, when Mays, driving a 2016 Dodge Charger, attempted to merge from southbound Missouri 291 to westbound I-70 and lost control of the car. It traveled across the westbound lanes, over the center Jersey barrier and across the eastbound lanes, overturning several times.

Mays was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car remains hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. The crash remains under investigation, though police said high speed was an apparent factor.
