Charlotte,NC : Charlotte County deputy at fault for Englewood crash on November, Saturday 25th 2017
Charlotte, North Carolina
A Charlotte County deputy could be facing traffic school and fines after being found at fault for a crash in an Englewood neighborhood.
Deputy Brett Armstead was cited for failing to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Wilmington Boulevard and Claremont Drive on Saturday afternoon.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Armstead's car entered the intersection when another driver traveling east on Wilmington crashed into him.
Investigators have not given any indication if Armstead had his lights and sirens on at the time of the crash.
CCSO spokesperson Katie Heck said the Englewood Fire Department had to free Armstead, who was trapped inside the car.
“Because of the nature of a police vehicle and how they have a cage, and all of their safety equipment, it was a little bit more complicated to get our deputy out of the vehicle," she said.
Armstead and the other driver were taken to the hospital shortly after with minor injuries.
"Deputies are human beings as well. Accidents always happen, and whether it’s us who drive for a living. deputies do drive 12 hours a day," Heck said.
Armstead will go before a crash review board committee who will decide the consequences the deputy will face.
"From that hearing, it’s determined whether or not the deputy will pay maybe a portion of the damage and then the extent of the training that they need," Heck said.
