Cape Fair, MO : Driver killed in truck-car collision on Missouri 173, three miles north of Cape Fair on Tuesday, Nov 3, 2015

A two-vehicle crash about 90 minutes before dawn killed a man who got out of his car because of a prior crash. A semi truck hit Kevin Vonelling’s car, which then hit and killed Vonelling.

The crash was about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday on Missouri 173, three miles north of Cape Fair. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Vonelling’s 2001 Saturn SCI was disabled in the southbound lane after the previous crash. Vonelling was out of the car.

Keith Johnson was driving south on the narrow highway and told troopers that he didn’t see the Saturn. His truck hit the car, which hit Vonelling.

Vonelling, 56, lived in the Cape Fair area, as does Johnson, 31. The Highway Patrol says Johnson refused medical treatment at the scene. The highway was closed until about 8:15 a.m.
