MASON CITY, IA : 1 hurt in crash on Taft Avenue on Thursday, October 6th, 2016

One person was injured Thursday in a crash on South Taft Avenue in Mason City.

The crash was reported in the northbound lane about 1 p.m. at Skyview Drive, which is just south of Ninth Street Southwest.

A northbound semitrailer collided with a Buick Enclave SUV, which also was northbound, when the big rig attempted to turn right on Skyview to get to a construction site, said Mason City Police Sgt. Dave Houser.

He said the man driving the SUV was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The SUV crashed into the fuel tank on the passenger side of the semitrailer, causing diesel fuel to spill onto the road.

The road was closed while firefighters, police and a tow truck driver worked the scene. It reopened about 2:15 p.m.

Officials were still investigating the crash Thursday afternoon. No citations had been issued.
