Colorado Springs, Colorado
A 45-year-old Colorado Springs man faces several charges, including driving under the influence, after authorities say he tried to flee from officers Tuesday night, crashing into a fire truck.
John Vest is being held at the El Paso County jail and faces allegations of reckless driving and obstructing police and fire officers.
Firefighters were called about 7:30 p.m. on an anonymous tip about a drunk driver on the 2600 block of Meadowland Boulevard. Responding fire crews found Vest "slumped over the wheel" of a vehicle with the engine running.
Firefighters used wheel chocks to secure the vehicle — a full-sized pickup truck — in place.
"As the responding police officers arrived, (Vest) woke up and attempted to drive away," police said. "At one point, (Vest) was rocking the vehicle back and forth in between the chocks trying to leave the scene against the verbal commands of officers."
Police say Vest then crashed into the side of the fire truck, causing minor damage.
Officers broke a window on Vest's pickup truck and pulled him out, according to officials.
