Westport, CT : Dartmouth man, 57, dies of injuries from Sunday motorcycle crash October 23 2016
A 57-year-old Dartmouth man has died of injuries from a crash on his motorcycle Sunday in Westport, police said.
Daniel J. Levesque, of Deerfield Lane in Dartmouth, was riding his 1965 Triumph motorcycle on Highland Avenue in Westport — less than half a mile from his home when he collided with an SUV backing out of a residential driveway, according to Detective Jeff Majewski of the Westport Police Department.
An 18-year-old resident of the Highland Avenue home was driving the SUV, a 2008 Jeep Patriot, with two other people in the vehicle, Majewski said.
Levesque’s motorcycle struck the SUV’s rear bumper while traveling south on Highland, and Levesque was unable to stop or maintain control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle skidded for about 85 feet and Levesque was thrown about 25 feet, Majewski said.
Levesque was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. Police learned Friday that he did not survive, Majewski said. The Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation, along with State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
