Montgomery, AL: Officer injured in crash shows improvement on Saturday, February 18th 2017
A Montgomery police officer left in critical condition after getting in a car wreck is showing some signs of improvement, police said. He is still considered critical.
"Police Chief Ernest Finley said officers remain with (officer C.E. Taylor's) family at Baptist South. He thanked the community and other law enforcement agencies for the outpouring of support," wrote MPD spokeswoman Regina Duckett in an email.
Taylor was on duty driving an unmarked police car about 1 p.m. on Friday when his vehicle collided with a Chrysler 300 on Woodley Road south of the Boulevard near Peter Crump Elementary School.
He was responding to assist a fellow officer who was pursuing someone with a gun, said Martha Earnhardt, a Montgomery Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.
"The officer went around a couple of cars and skidded as if he were out of control," said F. Burt, a witness who saw part of the incident. Burt declined to give his full name.
