Lincoln, NE : Woman killed in crash on U.S. 77 south of Lincoln on Monday, March 27th 2017
A westbound Ford Taurus driven by Laverda Baehr of Hastings failed to stop at the stop sign on Hickman Road before entering the intersection and was T-boned by a northbound Lincoln Town Car, Houchin said. The vehicles then hit a south-facing GMC pickup waiting to turn east on Hickman Road.
Baehr, 87, died at the scene, and the Town Car's driver, James Rivers III, 26, of Beatrice, was taken to Bryan West Campus, treated for minor injuries and released.
The pickup driver, Jim Jinings, 64, of Macedonia, Iowa, wasn't injured.
Seat belts were being used, and alcohol use wasn't believed to have been a factor in the crash.
U.S. 77 reopened just before 10:45 a.m. Monday after investigators closed the highway to investigate the crash.
