TAMPA, FL : Fatal crash closes portion of E Hillsborough Avenue near Orient Road in Tampa on Monday, 1st October 2018

A Brandon motorcyclist was killed Monday morning in a crash that caused E Hillsborough Avenue to be blocked in both directions near Orient Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. and involved an unidentified 50-year-old motorcyclist and a 2017 Nissan pickup truck, driven by 41-year-old Felipe Mendoza, of Tampa.

Troopers say the motorcyclist ran a red light while riding westbound on E Hillsborough Avenue at the intersection of Orient Road and was struck by Mendoza, who was turning onto westbound E Hillsborough Avenue.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene, troopers said.
