Norman, OK : Victim identified in fatality collision on Sunday,15th April 2018
The Norman Police Department released the identity of a local man who was killed last month after he hit a tree in northeast Norman.
Norman Public Safety Information Officer Sarah Jensen confirmed Tuesday that the person killed in a single-vehicle fatality collision was Jon Carpenter, 55, of Norman.
Jensen said early information from the collision indicates that Carpenter, who was traveling eastbound on Rock Creek Road from 48th Avenue NE in his Toyota Prius, veered off the roadway for an unknown reason.
Carpenter’s vehicle struck a large tree and became fully involved in fire.
Bystanders attempted to get Carpenter out of his vehicle, but due to the fire, they were unable to get him out.
Jensen said Carpenter was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A portion of Rock Creek Road was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated.
The collision remains under investigation by the NPD/OUPD Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team, Jensen said.
