Sandusky, OH : Married couple seriously injured after crash involving suspected impaired driver on Thursday, 20th June 2019

A man and his wife are hospitalized with serious injuries after a two-vehicle accident that happened Thursday afternoon just north of the Sandusky/Seneca county line.Michael P. Wittman, 67, of Tiffin, was driving a green 2015 GMC Terrain north on Ohio 101 at 3:05 p.m. when he slowed for railroad tracks. Behind him, Brent A. Bluhm, 27, of Bellevue, was driving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, which struck Wittman’s vehicle in the rear, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol.

The collision sent Wittman’s vehicle off the right side of the road and into railroad cross bucks.

Bluhm attempted to flee the scene but his vehicle became disabled several hundred feet north of the crash scene, troopers said.

Wittman and his wife, Sue A. Wittman, 67, both of whom were wearing safety belts, had to be mechanically extricated from the vehicle, troopers said. They sustained serious injuries and were transported to Bellevue Hospital. Later they were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Bluhm, who was not wearing his safety belt, suffered minor head injuries but refused treatment at the scene, troopers said
